Missouri Shorthorn Association Meeting Minutes for August 28, 2024
President Jose Cruz called the meeting to order @ 8:04 pm.
The Agenda was as follows:
1) State Fair
-Numbers were up immensely, and all agreed that it was a great show with excellent
announcing by Bill Betteridge.
-Banners and buckles for prizes were appreciated in the 4-H and FFA shows.
-Motion was made by Rusty and 2 nd by John H. to do buckles for Champion and Reserve
in the open show next year. Motion passed.
-Next year we will try to tie in the announcer audio with the livestream of the shows for
better audio options.
-Bred and owned categories were not judged this year due to them not being printed in
the MO State Fair book. It was discussed and decided that the MO Juniors will decide on
if they want them included again and get back with us to move forward or not.
-Jose will check on reserving the Youth Bldg next year for the meal and possibly having
it catered. Discussion was to leave it in the afternoon after the open show.
-Stalling was handled very well, with a few hiccups considering we’ve never had to use
the Youth stalls as overflow. Encourage everyone to voice any concerns as we grow.
2) MO Shorthorn Association Junior Board
-Welcomed the new president, Mealiea Cover and Secretary, Addison Counts to the call.
-Also welcomed new Jr. advisors, Bret/Loren Fahrmeier and Clint Youse to the call.
-There was mention of a MO Jr. Association and MO State Association meeting/social
gathering to be held this fall. Details to come as the date and info are set.
3) MO Shorthorn Association membership
-dues are still being accepted by mail and online. Encouraged board members to secure
more Ambassador and Industry Partners.
4) Fall Sale-
-MO Shorthorn Assoc online fall sale is set for October 29, 2024-contact Brett Naylor
with any questions or entries, including any donation items for MO Juniors.
-Shorthorn Country asked if we would like to run an ad for our sale:
-John H. moved and Zach Ward 2 nd to run a 2/3 rd page ad in the October issue of
Shorthorn Country for the MO Shorthorn Association sale. Motion passed.
5) MSA Website and Online Store
-website and online store are up and running- Sarah briefly presented those pages for
viewing on the zoom meeting.
-John H. made a motion to pay a monthly premium for the Printify Premium package-no
2 nd so motion failed
Old Business
- Ozark Shorthorn money has been put in a 9 month CD @ 4.4% at a Sedalia bank.
Beverly moved to adjourn the meeting @ 9:10 pm.
